Nevada Baylor has a unique and secret skill—she knows when people are lying—and she’s used that magic (along with plain, hard work) to keep her colorful and close-knit family’s detective agency afloat. But her new case pits her against the shadowy forces that almost destroyed the city of Houston once before, bringing Nevada back into contact with Connor “Mad” Rogan.

Rogan is a billionaire Prime—the highest rank of magic user—and as unreadable as ever, despite Nevada’s “talent.” But there’s no hiding the sparks between them. Now that the stakes are even higher, both professionally and personally, and their foes are unimaginably powerful, Rogan and Nevada will find that nothing burns like ice …

In WHITE HOT by Ilona Andrews, Nevada and Connor are back on the hunt for the secret conspiracy organization responsible for Pierce’s plan to destroy Houston in BURN FOR ME. When the group decides she and her family must be silenced for good, Nevada once again partners with Connor “Mad” Rogan to bring them to justice. Andrews delivers a unique mixture of magically enhanced warfare, an endearing cast of characters, and wickedly heated romance in this riveting second book of the Hidden Legacy series.

I fell hard for Nevada in BURN FOR ME and after devouring the second book in the series, I’m as enamored as ever. She will do anything to keep her family and the people who need her help safe, even if it means revealing the secret of her truthseeker powers to the world, revealing her “monstrous” powers that even the most dangerous mages fear, and never returning to the normal life she desires.

“I didn’t say I just wanted sex.”

“Let me quote: ‘Do you want seductions, dinners, and gifts? Seduction is a game, and if you pay enough in flattery, money, or attention, you get what you want. I thought you were above the game.’ Did you not say that to me a week before you strolled into my garage to invite me on a ‘date’?”

“Yes, I wanted to skip the bullshit.”

“So what happened? You changed your mind and now you want the bullshit?”

Rogan’s phone chimed. “Yes, I want your bullshit.”

“Well, you don’t get to have any of my bullshit. I’m keeping it.” Okay, and that didn’t sound childish. Not at all.

“Why not?”

“Because you call it bullshit.”

Teaming up with Connor Rogan is not Nevada’s idea of a good time. She is wickedly attracted to Mr. Tall, Dark, and Dangerous, but she won’t settle for physical attraction, she wants love. That’s not the only reason to avoid a relationship with the man. He IS named Mad Rogan for a reason. While she’s not so sure she believes he’s the sociopath he appears to be in BURN FOR ME, she’s not sure she’d survive a relationship with the man.

I can’t say I blame her for avoiding a relationship with the most dangerous Prime in the country, but as the mystery behind what made Mad Rogan a force to be reckoned with begins to clear, it’s hard to fault any woman for falling for him. Yes, he considers some actions most people consider wrong as a means to an end, but he is also loyal, principled, and never goes back on his word. After reading WHITE HOT, he has earned the title of Book Boyfriend.

But an intensely sexy romance with yummy magically charged sex is not all WHITE HOT has to offer.

There’s the delightfully weird, but oh so hilarious Baylor family composed of Nevada’s mechanic grandmother who builds tanks and other armored vehicles, an ex-military sniper mother who’d rather shoot first and ask questions later, two sisters whose powers may be even more terrifying than Nevada’s, two cousins with very handy talents, and a father whose death still hurts, but who’s mysterious past comes back to haunt them in WHITE HOT.

There’s also Cornelius Harrison, Significant level animal mage of the Prime House Harrison and his adorable four-year old daughter. They have their own parts to play in WHITE HOT and they’re just as entertaining as the Baylor family.

I’ve never read an Ilona Andrews novel that I didn’t love. Her worlds are well-crafted, unique, and always one of a kind. Her characters are heartwarming, heartbreaking, and just plain moving. If you’ve never experienced the addictive writing of an Ilona Andrews novel, you are missing out.

About Ilona Andrews

Ilona Andrews is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Oregon with their two children, three dogs and a cat.
